My excitement about going to Fem 2.0 is multilayered.  One of the benefits of being the Vice President at The Women’s Media Center is the opportunity to meet and learn from so many great women.  Some of my favorite bloggers and media mavens will be there: Veronica Arreola, Joanne Bamberger, Avis Jones-DeWeever and Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner just to name a few.  Next there are dedicated colleagues in this brave new media world who are innovative and inspiring: Shireen Mitchell and Margot Friedman and Melissa Silverstein for example.

As a longtime feminist and media advocate, new media is, well, new(er) to me. I joined Facebook mere months ago, and although I enjoy reading other’s blogs tremendously, do not have one of my own. That doesn’t mean I don’t see how important this new media world is to those of us who are used to treading in the waters of traditional media in an effort to get women’s voices heard! The importance of new media cannot be overstated.  In a climate where traditional media jobs are lost every day and media ownerships rests in even fewer (mostly male) hands, new media holds possibilities for women that are promising. It is that promise that brings me to Fem 2.0. Let the dialogue begin!
