Wondering if you'd consider 'cross-posts' on Moms Rising, as we definitely cover all aspects of the "T" in mother...(media and marketing's impact on kids) and sure would love to get moms riled up about some of the good, bad and the ugly coming at us in surround sound...Here's one today about the sexualization of cartoon icons with 'squarebutts' to hawk Burgers...talk about a meat market. http://blog.shapingyouth.org/?p=6128 ---BLEH!

Moms Rising, we could sure use your clout to add our voice into the media mix of mutual concerns...feel free to take anything you want from Shaping Youth via creative commons/attribution for reprinting, just ping me. Best, Amy

Dear Kristin--as I said when I posted your invitation to my Facebook profile, this is good for women's movement. It's important, I think, for many groups to proliferate and for these groups to be in close communication. I hope you will continue to reach out to other groups as well, especially to women of color and what is sometimes called multicultural women.

In the past weeks I have become more and more focused on women in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran, whose rights are so severely negated that they are chattel. They are suffering. I feel that We Who Are Freer Must Speak Out, but so far I have found little support for this. In fact, I wrote to Secretary of State Clinton on the issue and got back a one-line form reply. I have asked members of Feminist Advisory Board who would join me in a letter and so far have received one positive reply.

I’m going to email Anita to ask for help in this effort. What would be best? How can we best pressure our government to pressure these countries to uphold the human rights of women?? What is the responsibility of a mother to other women of the world?
