Does Hillary speak out against sexism directed at Palin? Nancy Pelosi? No, because this is about partisanship, not sexism. I happen to think that a lot of Republicans are put off by her shoot-from-the-hip style, but we all acknowledge her personal charisma, charm and guts. She explained her quitting the governor's job because of the harassment of various lawsuits filed against her related to the "Troopergate" affair, and if you know Alaskan law and her financial situation you know that she had at least a valid point. Still, Republicans most respect do-ers, not talkers, and her decision to throw in the towel will probably cost her any decent shot at the 2012 nomination because she didn't hang in there and tough it out.

I really hate it when liberal critics, like Amanda Hess you quoted above, try to paint her as stupid -- she's obviously not. I hate it when they try to paint her as a rube -- she's not. She does have some good ideas, and had the guts to take on the establishment in Alaska to push them through. But no one on the Left seems to want to give her credit for anything other than being a "hot conservative lady." Talk about patronizing.
