The 20th Annual Young Women of Achievement Awards: Cecile Richards Will Deliver Keynote Address

We are thrilled to announce that Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Action Fund (PPAF), will deliver the keynote address at the 20th annual Young Women of Achievement Awards (YWA). In honor of the 20th anniversary, this year’s theme is, “20/20 Vision: 20 Years of YWA. 20 Women Senators. Headed Towards a Perfect Vision.” Ms. Richards is unquestionably a leader in the fight for women’s rights and we can’t be happier to have her join us as we celebrate the accomplishments of our talented nominees.

Ms. Richards leads a national organization that has worked for nearly 100 years to build a healthier and safer world for women and teens. Since joining Planned Parenthood in 2006, Ms. Richards has expanded the organization’s advocacy for access to health care and ensured that Planned Parenthood played a pivotal role in shaping health care coverage and services for women under the Affordable Care Act.  In 2011, she led an unprecedented nationwide campaign to preserve access to Planned Parenthood preventive care through federal programs.  Under her leadership, the number of Planned Parenthood supporters has doubled, reaching more than seven million.

YWA is WIN’s annual celebration of highly talented, up-and-coming young women leaders making a difference. YWA acknowledges young, Democratic, pro-choice women of excellence who have made strides in their field and a significant difference in the world. The nominees are Democratic, pro-choice women who are 35 years of age or younger, and live in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. A full list of nominees can be found here.

In every sense, YWA embodies the mission of WIN. Founded in 1989 on the principle of women helping women climb the ladder of success, WIN is now over 1,000 members strong. We provide women with opportunities to network with peers and leaders in the community, serve in leadership positions, gain valuable professional and political skills, and give back to our broader movement for pro-choice, political, and professional equality.

The ceremony will take place on Thursday, February 28, 2013, at the Carnegie Institute and begin with a networking reception at 6:30pm, followed by the awards ceremony at 7:30pm where the winners will be announced. To purchase tickets, please visit the YWA site.
